Big Buddy Program

The Big Buddy Program takes place at after-school sites throughout Davie Co. Volunteers spend 1 hour each week with a child, participating in activities such as reading together, playing games, studying, crafts, and talking.

All activities take place at the Davie Family YMCA After School sites located at all six elementary schools. The Buddies do not leave campus unless there is a group activity planned and supervised by BBBS staff and permission has been granted by the Little Buddy's parent.

Elementary students in this program, referred to as "Little Buddies," are children who would benefit from additional attention either academically or socially. BBBS works with each child's teacher to determine what type of activities would be most helpful.

"Big Buddies" can be high school students, college students, or adult volunteers. As with all Matches, volunteers are carefully screened and trained to provide the most positive experience possible for both the volunteer and the child. Volunteers are matched with a child at the location most convenient for them.
